PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

Canzona

 by J. Westley Slater

$60

Slater's work represents a major addition to the mallet ensemble literature.  This full-fledged canzona requires advanced two and four-mallet playing on six keyboard instruments as well as sensitive playing by two percussionists.  A difficult sixteen-minute work which will challenge the best of players.

Chameleon Music

 by Dan Welcher

$60

Truman Capote's short story Music for Chameleons provided the inspiration for this work.  Welcher's music sets the stage for Capote's story with its use of cricket calls, bamboo wind chimes, and spring coil.  Bits of Mozart piano sonatas are quoted throughout by the keyboard instruments.  Chamleon Music is a difficult piece that requires ten players.

Circadian Rhythms

by Carolyn Bremer

$60

Scored for primarily keyboard percussion, this difficult eleven-minute work challenges the players both rhythmically and conceptually.  Its minimalist nature creates an unusual and engaging work for all ten players.

Compendium

by Blake M. Wilkins

$60

Compendium is one of the most challenging and rewarding works in our catalog.  With this masterwork, the composer of the epic Twilight Offering Music asserts himself as a powerful voice among today's composers.  This aggressive and exciting work features an original, sophisticated structural design and an idiosyncratic harmoic language.  Though virtually all keyboard parts can be executed with two mallets, Wilkins pushes two mallet technique to its limit with extended double-stroke passages and wide leaps in rolled, legato melodic lines.  This thirteen minute work is written for a full keyboard ensemble (including bass marimba), plus timpani and a wide range of battery instruments.

Concertare

 by Raymond Helble

$60

This neo-baroque masterpiece by the composer of Diabolic Variations is a devilishly difficult tour de force for mallets that will challenge all twelve players.
